Activities in the English Salon ¡°Qingdao (Fuxin) Students¡¯ English Salon¡± and ¡°Qingdao (Fuxin) Adults¡¯ English Salon¡±, founded by Qingdao Foreign Language Club, have become a widely known gathering place of English lovers in Qingdao. Every Sunday morning, the Multi-Function Hall in Fuxin Hotel, as a huge magnet, attracts English-lovers, students from primary & middle schools, colleges and universities, foreign experts and visitors from all walks of life. The salons have received more than 35,000 domestic and foreign visitors since their founding in 1997. Guo Jianzhong, president of the Zhejiang Provincial Translator¡¯s Association, remarked after his visit to the salons that ¡°They are the first in Eastern China and rarely seen in the country.¡± Fuxin
English Salons have become a rendezvous for cultural and recreational
activities at the weekend in Qingdao. Participants can always benefit
from the colorful, multi-form activities. Each week there is a different
topic chosen for each of the salons, which are hosted by fluent English
speaking members and participated by foreign experts or students, who
are invited to give lectures or deliver speeches. All the members will
have opportunities to practice their oral English through their
conversations in English. And in due course, all the salon members will
become fluent and genuine English speakers. |
